Spanish Classes Enjoy Dance Show

by Karen Hayes

October 09, 2008

Diamond's Spanish classes hosted a unique event this week.  The Ballet Folklorico Mexicano was a show comprised of regional dances of Mexico.  The professional group, Ollimpaxqui Ballet Company., Inc based out of Dallas, TX, introduced students to the unique cultural dances and music as well as explained some of the beautiful costumes they wore.  One popular dance was La Bamba from the region of Veracruz.  In this, the dancers tied a bow in a ribbon with their feet! You can see this type of dance by clicking here:  La Bamba  video  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weEx40XSN44 )

After the hour and a half show, students ate together at a Mexican restaurant with the dancers. Two upper level students sat with them and practiced their conversational skills.

Please enjoy the slide show from our trip.
