Diamond Welcomes International Students
by Karen Hayes
October 26, 2007
Diamond is the new home to two international students this year. Daniel is from Colombia, South America and Ritsuki is from Japan. They are quickly improving their English skills, becoming part of school groups, and making friends.
Ritsuki lives with the Akehurst family. She is in the band and loves to march in the parades and participate in field performances. While she was in Japan preparing to come to the U.S., being in a marching band was one thing she really wanted to do here. Her host family has two children in the band, so they welcomed Ritsuki into their home which easily enabled her to fulfill her dream.
Daniel lives with the Cupp family. He is in the International Club and taught cooking in their last meeting. (see related article on this site) Daniel was recently introduced to spook houses by new friends at school and enjoys hanging out with them.
Take some time to get to know our new students. They are two very special people! If you are interested in hosting an exchange student in the future, you may contact Karen Hayes at khayes@diamondwildcats.org or see the website of the company which placed these students: www.internationalfellowship.org
