Taking Home the Gold...

Diamond Speech Team Places at Exeter Tournament!

by Kerri Goucher

March 02, 2010

Most think the Diamond Speech Team is crazy for waking up before dawn on a Saturday morning. In fact, student Katie Long had a very long list of adjectives to describe her thoughts on the subject: sick, twisted, repulsive, imprudent, passionate, uncalled for... But we live for these early morning trips. Between the last minute memorizing and piece cutting, we are super psyched.

This past Saturday was no different. We walked in the doors of Exeter High School, piled our things on the lunch table and took off for the first three rounds of our respective events.

When we were finished with these first three rounds, we crowded around our table anxiously awaiting who would make it to Finals. Cody Martin, Gabby Palmer, Kerri Goucher, and Laken Rawlins were stoked to continue competing.

After three years of hard work and countless files on current events, Cody Martin took first place in Extemporaneous Speaking.

Gabby Palmer earned first place with a moving piece called Go Towards the Light in prose, while Laken Rawlins took fifth in the same event with My Girl.

Finally, Kerri Goucher and Gabby Palmer won fifth in Duet Acting with Clausarella.

The four gave it their best and came home with the gold. Let's hope we keep it up at MSHSAA Districts on Friday!
