If you think this article is about an old Pat Benatar song, then you're wrong!
Friday night the Lady Cats played against the two-time state champions, the Webb City Cardinals. The game was tied until the 4th inning. It was quite intense. After that, the Cardinals gained momentum and won the game.
Saturday was the last day of the tournament. The Lady Wildcats yet again played another 4-A school, Springfield Hillcrest. The faces of the Springfield team weren’t new to the Lady Cats. Two years ago they played one another in the championship game at Reed Springs; and the lady cats had won. This time was the game was almost exactly the same.
It was a tight game all the way up until the end. Tied in the 7th, this put it into the International Tie-Breaker. Uncommon to many, this meant throughout the inning which ever team was batting could have a runner on second base. With Hillcrest being the home team, they had the pleasure of last at bat. One hit though the infield brought the runner on second in, and they won the game.
The Lady Cats weren’t worried because this wouldn’t be the last time they see Hillcrest this season.
There were many 4-A and 3-A schools in the tournament, Diamond was the only 2-A school there. The Lady Wildcat coaches were said to be very proud of their players. This is only the beginning. The softball team has a bright future ahead of them.
Great job, ladies and coaches, and good luck with the rest of the season!
The next softball game is scheduled to be Friday, September 5th at Billings. Game time is 5:00 p.m. and both the JV and Varsity teams will play.
